Linda Wilmot, DVM

Dr. Wilmot, a Montgomery County native, knew from a young age that she wanted to be an “animal doctor”. She fondly remembers visiting chickens at Hines Hatchery off Georgia Avenue and cows at Martins Dairy on the property where Roots now stands. These experiences only reinforced her desire to work both for and with non-human animals. Once she was old enough, she became a veterinary assistant at a small animal practice in Potomac, and her career with animals was launched. She graduated with a BS (Animal Science) from UMD (College Park) and an MS (Experimental Pathology) from UMD (Baltimore), and she earned her DVM from Ohio State University, where she received the Patricia Grubman Scholarship Award for the compassion shown to her patients. She returned to the DC area and began an internship in small animal medicine and surgery, before leaving to join a 5-doctor practice in PG County. In 1996, she rejoined the practice where she worked as an assistant. She is retired from the FDA/Center for Veterinary Medicine, where she worked to assure that the pharmaceuticals submitted by the animal drug industry are safe and effective for use in animals.

She is a member of the DC Academy of Veterinary Medicine and the American Veterinary Medical Association. She is also a member of the American Association of Feline Practitioners, from which she holds a “Cat Friendly” certification. She is active in the Animal Allies Rescue Foundation (AARF) and can often be found bottle-feeding orphan kittens or managing abuse cases after they are released from the hospital, getting them ready for their forever homes.
Dr. Wilmot lives in the area with her husband, numerous (don’t ask) cats, and two dogs. Her adult children visit frequently. Dr. Wilmot’s other interests include gardening, reading, and beekeeping.
